Quality vs Quantity

When building your personal brand, which is more important – quality or quantity?

To be more precise, is it better to produce content everyday while sacrificing quality, or is it better to produce content of high quality but infrequently? This is a conundrum every creator faces at some point.

Before I answer this, I would like to bring up another question. What qualifies as “high quality” content?

Simply put, it is content on which you have spent sufficient time researching, writing, and creating. So this particular post does not qualify as high quality.

The production value must be high. Your skills and talent must shine through in your work. When you finally post that content, you should feel so proud that you don’t care if people view it or not. It should make you feel good.

How do you build these skills? Practice.

Practice until you can write in your sleep. Practice until your head hurts. Practice until your body is sore.

To answer the initial question – before focusing on long form high quality content, master the art of showing up. Build that discipline, get those habits in place.

It is easy to say I will only write twice a week. However, when you have never built that discipline in your life, you can never commit to writing even once a week. Chances are, you will always want to skip that day.

In the beginning, you should be churning out content every day. Even if it just 100 words, or a instagram story. But post everyday. Engrave that habit in your very soul. You should not be able to sleep without creating that piece of content. It should be a non negotiable in your life.

Once you have created enough content, you will realize how good you have become. At that point, you can take the decision to move towards long form content which is more time consuming.

Focus on quantity in the initial period to gain that confidence a while steadily improving the quality everyday. One day, the question will become moot.

You might think I am saying some generic stuff here. It couldn’t be further from the truth. I am speaking from experience. I have achieved success in other aspects of life by doing just what I have written.

I have also failed in content creation because I didn’t follow what I had written. I tried to focus on quality without building the discipline. I have learnt my lesson.
