In this fast paced, materialistic world of ours, there is one question asked by nearly everyone. What is the secret to success?
This is a question that I constantly think about. The quest for success keeps me working. So what is the secret to success?
There are just so many coaches, gurus, and influencers out there who seem to have figured out this elusive secret. They are willing to share it for a price.
Then there are those well meaning friends and relatives who will give you generic advice, passing it off as something intellectual. “Work hard”, “Save more”, “Be a badass”, and so on. Luckily, this advice is mostly free and also partly true.
Before I get to the secret, I will talk about what success means. Success is whatever you want it to be.
For example, I view success as having control over my time and efforts while building wealth. For others it could be climbing up the corporate ladder or changing the world in some way.
The point is to first define what success means to you. That is pretty much the secret to success.
Well this was a waste! What an idiot! I already knew that!
Maybe it is true for you. But most people go through life without properly defining what would actually make them the most happy. They often look at accomplished individuals and just copy their life goals, word for word. Or they allow society to dictate what their life should look like.
Most people are going through mental problems because they are trying to live lives other than their own. Instead, if they had just spent some time figuring out what they truly wanted, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.
This process might take days, or months, years, or even decades. It might require you to try out a bunch of different things, take up a lot of courses, hobbies, and even career choices. And even after you have defined what success means, there is a lot of experimentation, trial and error, and hard work which goes into getting there.
The point is that there is no “the secret” to success. 80% is just defining what success means and the remaining is the process that leads to success.
What does success feel like?
I will let you know once I achieve success.
