5 Things To Be Grateful For Everyday

Have you gone through days where you have just been frustrated all the time? If you are a homo sapien above the age of 21, you have had many days like this. If you are a fully working adult, you might have gone through weeks of frustration. And if you are an aspiring entrepreneur like me, you have probably gone months feeling lonely and irritated.

I recently took a challenge to post on this blog everyday, for the next 100 days. I was trying to figure out what to write about today. Usually, I have a hundred different ideas running in my head, but today my work frustrations have spilled over. I cant eat, cant focus, cant even string two coherent thoughts together.

Then, I heard my father mention that today is World Gratitude Day. At first, I scoffed. Why was today the day I have to be grateful? Why cant it come at a good time?

But then my initial cynicism gave way for a logical conversation with myself. I asked myself, “What am I actually grateful for in life?”

The answer came pretty naturally. I realized this is not just unique to me, but to most adults living and breathing in this hyper connected world of ours. Despite all the challenges life throws, it is still beautiful and must be cherished.

Here are 5 things to be grateful for everyday:

  1. Being Alive – Life is a gift and we should feel gratitude we have the ability to experience it everyday. A healthy body, a beating heart, and a sound mind, despite being challenged is something we should cherish.
  2. Your family – During your toughest times, it is your parents, siblings, and closest friends who stand by you. They save your from your negative thoughts. Never let these people go. Be grateful for them.
  3. The food you eat – Your daily meals are the result of the efforts of the entire society pooling its efforts to ensure you can afford to eat. Gratitude for food is gratitude for the human race. Start showing gratitude everytime you sit down for a meal.
  4. The Universe – This is pretty cliche, but your existence is the result of a cosmic miracle. If our planet had been even a percent off balance or a few kilometers closer or away from the sun, chances are we wouldn’t be alive to have these thoughts. Be grateful to the universe, or nature, or god, or whatever you would like to call it. Your life is the greatest masterpiece of the universe.
  5. The bad days – Finally, be grateful for the bad days. They make you appreciate the good days.

Showing gratitude is a prayer to yourself. It helps clear your head and allows you to substitute the negative emotions with the positive. It might not give immediate results, but in the long run it will help you become the best version of yourself.
